Hello! We are Michigan in Color — The Daily’s section by and for People of Color. In this space, we invite our contributors to be vulnerable and authentic about our experiences and the important issues in our world today. Our work represents our identities in a way that is both unapologetic and creative. With that being said, MiC encourages creative expression in all its viable forms, welcoming all types of writing, including personal narrative, poetry, editorial, news reports, blog posts, photography and more. We are a community that reclaims our stories on our own terms.

Positions

Michigan in Color, The Daily's section by and for People of Color, is recruiting talented columnists to write biweekly articles about whatever compels you: your experiences, important issues in our world today, social justice causes and anything else that you believe the world and U-M community should know. We welcome all types of writing, including personal narratives, poetry, editorials, immersive journalism, photo essays and more. Columnists are highly encouraged to meet with editors and workshop their pieces, and are required to attend weekly MiC meetings to build community and keep staff up-to-date on section information. Speedy, reliable communication is crucial. MiC is a community of truth, and we seek to expand the variety and reach of our knowledge. Come join our family!

Michigan in Color

Michigan in Color, The Daily's section by and for People of Color, is recruiting talented graphic designers to illustrate graphics accompanying MiC articles (around one per week) and graphics for MiC’s social media (approximately one to two per week). Graphic designers are also encouraged to create their own illustrations to be featured as solo artistic work on the MiC page. This can take the form of political cartoons, paintings, personal designs and more. Speedy, reliable communication is crucial. Graphic designers should be collaborative and creative, and are required to attend weekly MiC meetings to build community and keep staff up-to-date on section information. MiC is a community of truth, and we seek to expand the variety and reach of our knowledge. Come join our family!

Michigan in Color, The Daily's section by and for People of Color, is recruiting talented photographers to capture photos to accompany MiC articles and social media. We also encourage photographers to take their own photos to be featured as solo artistic work on the MiC page — from capturing a basketball game, covering a campus rally, snapping pictures of the flowers in your garden, to sharing the various food spots on campus, we would like you to have creative range. Speedy, reliable communication is crucial. Photographers should be creative and collaborative, and are required to attend weekly MiC meetings to build community and keep staff up-to-date on section information. MiC is a community of truth, and we seek to expand the variety and reach of our knowledge. Come join our family!

Michigan in Color

Michigan in Color, The Daily's section by and for People of Color, is recruiting talented social media co-managers to disseminate educational information on MiC’s social media; ideate fresh, original content to expand our online reach and oversee the implementation of such social media initiatives. Social media managers are expected to have a strong grasp of Instagram, our most influential social media platform, as well as Twitter and Facebook. In the current age, MiC is committed to educating and providing aid for communities, and this includes utilizing our social media following. As such, social media managers should be keenly aware of socially responsible resources and issues whose awareness can be spread via social media, like mutual aid, scholarships, historical overviews, etc. in order to share them on MiC’s story and MiC’s feed through weekly roundups. Social media managers should be collaborative and creative, and they should be excellent problem solvers and innovative thinkers. Speedy, reliable communication is required, as is attendance of weekly MiC meetings to build community and keep staff up-to-date on section information. MiC is a community of truth, and we seek to expand the variety and reach of our knowledge. Come join our family!
